What I'm Crocheting/Knitting

Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be able to knit and crochet. As crazy as it sounds. I used to think (and I totally still do) that knitting something with a beautiful color yarn and drinking a hot cup of tea or coffee would be the epitome of cool adulthood. I can remember being a little girl, about six or seven, at Granny's house. I would take one of her Afghans off the couch, drape it over my legs and use pencils to pretend I was making it myself. I was a strange kid.

Anyway, I am kind of self taught at crocheting and knitting, so they are both not very good. After watching and rewinding dozens of videos, I have muddled my way through some blankets and scarves, even a sweater that is... let's just say it is better left hanging up in the darkest part of my closet. I am hopeful that, just like with any skill, I will get better as I continue to practice.

One of my favorite times to crochet or knit is in the fall. My husband is really into football, so most days in September to February, we are watching some football game. I am not one to fight over the remote because there isn't really anything I want to watch on the TV more than he wants to watch football. So while he's cheering for the Cincinati Bengals, I am sitting next to him, just crafting away. This is one of the most peaceful hobbies ever, which I think is a hilarious contrast to how intense some of these football games can get.

This is the pink scarf I started working on in December 2024. Did I mention I'm a very slow knitter? I keep this project in my larger tote purse that I take to work. I work on this during my lunch break and sometimes when I come home from work after dinner. I'm excited to wear this scarf this winter with my black and white houndstooth peacoat.

I recently found a super easy granny square pattern and I have fallen in love. These little squares, which I changed the name to hot-girl squares when I taught one of my friends how to make them, are so quick and easy to make. In no time at all, you will have made a dozen of these!

One thing I really like about making hot-girl squares is that you can use different colors without having to spend a lot of time on creating a row, like you would in a blanket. I made a chevron Afghan for my husband' s man cave downstairs in orange, black, grey and white, the colors of the Cincinati Bengals. I was excited to use 4 different colors on that project, but I quickly realized that, because I was making a decent sized throw and I am NOT fast at all, I was spending so much time with one color. Granted, if I were faster, it probably wouldn't have seemed like it, but I swear, by the time it was time to change colors, I was thrilled. Anyway, with these little squares, you are changing colors so quickly, it feels like you're actually making something. I guess that's the part I like- seeing my progress sooner.

I plan on putting together a little mix match, colorful blanket made up of my hot-girl squares. I took a break from making them when we had some family stay with us a few weeks ago, but I would like get back into it.

That is all for today! I hope you enjoy the weekend!

Halfway Through 2025

“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”  — Carl Bard I don't know anything about Carl Bard, but I do love this quote. Today, we are starting the seventh month of 2025. Halfway through the year! Where did the time go? What were we doing? What will we do with what's left? If you're like me, you are probably wondering these questions too. I am going to dedicate this post to be an inspiration to make 2025 what you want it to be, even if we're 50% of the way through.  The First Half Is Over We should definitely celebrate what we accomplished the first half of the year. I love celebrating things. I think it's encouraging to keep going until you have accomplished something else worth celebrating. That being said, I don't like to be caught up on mistakes made or missed opportunities. I hate dwelling on the negative. One thing that is tough to address is that we can't change what has happened....

What I Read This Month

Listed below are some of the books I've read over the last several weeks. I think my taste in books has started to change from pure fiction to autobiography/memoirs. I am really liking true stories being shared, not just made up characters. I feel like I actually know these people because they're real. It's something I never considered reading, but I love it and maybe you will to!  Book # 1 Dinner for Vampires So I half physically read and half listened to the audio version, and I loved it! Bethany Joy Lenz is one of my favorite actresses on the Hallmark Channel, and I loved her character from One Tree Hill. I figured her life story would be interesting, and IT IS! It's about her life as a young adult in a real life cult. One thing I really liked about the audio version is that she actually narrates the whole thing, and sings in it, has some guest stars and she has such a great voice. I highly recommend.  Book # 2 The Third Gilmore Girl Oh Kelly Bishop... I had no idea ...

Slow Mornings

Slow mornings… Is there anything better than a nice, slow morning? Whether you are able to sleep in a couple extra hours, or if you are still the early riser you are on a work day, just taking everything slow. Enjoying the coffee for a little bit longer. Extending quiet time out a little longer. Maybe even going to brunch. If you’re like me, you probably associate slow mornings with vacation, and everyone is their best self on vacation.  Joey I love to spend slow mornings on my deck, with coffee, my bible and whatever Bible study I’m working through. My dogs accompany me as well. They run around the yard until they get tired from the heat and then they walk back up to the deck to lie down near me.  Another slow morning luxury- getting ready. Normally, I am busting through my usual 15 minute routine and trying to get out the door sooner rather than later. When I am able to get ready not in a rush- it is transcendent. I listen to a podcast, whatever new audio book I’m listening...
